| THE ART OF SELF COACHING How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Improve Your Experience Throughout our lives, we occasionally discover (or someone tells us) that we might have a recurring thought pattern, habit or behavior that has tripped us up along the way. Alternately, we feel stuck when we haven't accomplished what we intended. At these points, we might turn to a mentor, trusted colleague or professional coach to help us navigate through a challenge. Or, sometimes we might just say "that's the way I am, and there's nothing I can do about it." Well, it turns out modern neuroscience has proven that we can indeed overcome detrimental patterns, and, in fact, simple, foundational techniques can be learned to coach ourselves to greater success and satisfaction. While mentors, colleagues and coaches are still truly beneficial, what we gain from them can also be dramatically enhanced if we embrace a growth mindset and learn a few self-coaching practices. |
