Reaction – it's not Your Fault, but it's Your Responsibility

Our blog this week spotlights Reverend angel Kyodo williams who is an African-American Buddhist, activist, author and founder of the Center for Transformative Change.  She is a guest presenter in the 8 week Mindful at Work course that begins on October 8.  She firmly believes in and speaks about change: "without inner change there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters."

When we come across stressful situations that we have no control over, our instinct is to internalize and become contemplative. We seek practices that will help our minds and bodies cope with the turmoil by focusing more on ourselves. We learn reflective practices such as meditation and yoga to guide us to attain inner peace.   Read More

Are you an authentic leader?

This week's blog spotlights Susan Skjei, Director of the Authentic Leadership Center at Naropa University, former Chief Learning Officer in the technology sector and senior mindfulness instructor.  This week Susan poses the questions: "Are you an authentic leader? Are you honest and present in your dealings with others in the workplace? Do you have a sense of humor when times are tough? Do you speak up when your voice needs to be heard?"

There are three essential components for authentic leadership identified by Susan – "Authentic and Mindful Presence", which is how we work with ourselves; "Authentic Engagement and Communication", which is how we work with others; and "Authentic and Wise Action", which is how we work with systems and create cultures of authenticity.   Read More
