Join the Mindful Revolution

This week's blog we focus on how mindfulness can impact organizational culture. Mindfulness practices can certainly be helpful when taught at the individual level, they can also be utilized within organizations and teams to create a culture of focus, appreciation and alignment, and to foster creativity and innovation.

Mindfulness should not be seen as a panacea. Regardless of how often we practice, we will still encounter tests of our current skill levels and risk frustration, setbacks, and even failure.

Authentic Leadership Spring Program Just Announced

Lessons from the River

Dear Leaders,

I'm sitting on the passenger train from Denver to Glenwood Springs.
The train track follows the path of the Colorado River as it winds its way through the mountains to California. At first the river flows along gently, expanding and narrowing, depending on the terrain. Although there are houses and farms along the river's edge, the river itself is mostly empty of pe
ople. Occasionally I see fly fisherman standing waist deep in the water and rafters bobbing gently in their rubber boats who look up and wave as the train passes by.

As we move closer to the gorge the color of the river changes from blue to deep green. Steep walls of rock keep the river contained and there is less opportunity for it to expand.   The water runs faster here and the steep banks are covered with thick trees and bushes. As I reflect on the changing qualities of the river I see this same pattern reflected in my own life and work. Sometimes, situations call for focus and deep intention. Other times what is needed is simplicity and relaxation. In the rush of daily life I sometimes forget that I have a choice about how to respond. Taking some "down time" can help put things back in perspective.

With Gratitude,
Susan Skjei
